What To Wear For A Late Summer Dinner

what to wear Sep 18, 2019

How fabulous is this late summer heatwave? As much as I love the winter and getting my opaques and boots on, I am an even bigger fan of sunshine. So I made the most of a warm evening on Saturday night when I went out for dinner, at a bit of a posh restaurant in Jersey.

I love maxi dresses and skirts and the one I am wearing is by Armani Exchange which I bought six years ago for a September wedding on a yacht in California. Having never been on a yacht in anything other than a bikini or sailing gear it was a challenge for me what I should wear! I wanted something that was formal enough for a wedding but yet fun, and all importantly something that I could wear flat non-slippy deck shoes with - this was the skirt that worked perfectly.

Remember these styling ideas are all about letting you see different looks and you know our clothes work really hard for us, so you will see items being repeated. If you like the concept, have a look in your wardrobe to see if you have similar. Or perhaps it's just one element of what I am wearing that appeals to you and that is great too!

When wearing a pleated maxi skirt remember to pair it with a fitted top, as wide plus wide will add pounds you don't have to your frame. I have worn this skirt with a black all over sequinned top to a black-tie event, but it works equally well with a quirky t-shirt for a more casual look. From the front, my t-shirt is almost too casual but the mesh back is the talking point. As you can see I deliberately team with a front fasten red lace bra which adds interest below and is meant to be seen. If showing a funky bra below is too much for you simply pop a camisole below to cover your bra and it's up to you if you want to go same colour or contrast.

Having something to throw over shoulders for after dinner is needed and my leather biker is perfect at keeping this look edgy and not too prim and proper. I love Massimo Dutti for their super soft leathers and this season their black leather biker jacket is a classic - if you are ever in one of their stores try one on just for the pleasure of touching such good quality for the price point.

I wore my sparkle silver sandals and to keep with the edgy style there was only one possible choice of earring and that meant my favourite silver hoop earrings (again!). You know how much I love my cuff bracelets and long pendants to finish off an outfit. Finally, every look needs a cocktail ring!

As always do let me know what you like from these What To Wear posts and let me know if there are any specifics you would like to see covered.

Stylish Wishes!
